Every other part of the logistics process is largely invisible to the end customer. Freight moves across oceans, clears customs, transfers between hubs, and none of it is seen or felt until the final leg. Last-mile delivery is where the entire supply chain either earns or loses the customer's trust, which is why it attracts more scrutiny, and more complaints, than any other part of the process.
What looks like a straightforward delivery from the outside involves a dense layer of operational decisions: route sequencing across dozens or hundreds of stops, real-time adjustment for traffic and access restrictions, failed delivery management, proof-of-delivery capture, and returns handling, all within tight time windows and at a cost structure that leaves almost no margin for error.
Urban density compounds the challenge, particularly in cities where vehicle access restrictions, parking limitations, and building security protocols add friction to every single drop.
